Hello, I have a 2001 Saturn SC2 that needs various maintenance items. It has about 46K miles at present and it definitely needs new struts. I've noted KYB GR2 struts available at a good price, but have never used these. Can anyone recommend them or suggest an alternative? Any advice on installing them? I swing a wrench pretty well, but generally work on my Miata, which has coilovers and not stuts.

If I've placed this in the wrong forum, I apologize... First time here!

Thanks!

a friend of mine has them on a different car, and he has had good luck with them!

Don't know what price you got them for and it's none of my business, but I found all 4 for 219.80. Hope that helps. Need a set for my 95 SL2 as well.

out of all the currently available replacement struts for the saturn s-series, the kyb struts suck the least. they're not really good enough to recommend, but they're better than the other junk out there. i have them on my car and use h&r sport springs, but i don't drive it daily anymore...

i just put a set of quick install struts on my 03 saturn vue which would cost more for me. i try to buy the best that i can buy for a better price and a very good product. the ones i got where very nice and a pretty nice price, the thing about quick install struts are you are getting all new part not useing your old springs. the company i got them from is detroit axle, 3 day servive, had them on my car for over a year and work super good, you can fine detroit axle on ebay , thats how i got them, might be other way by the company but the better deal is by ebay. look up ebay, type saturn and type quick struts and you will fine 67.00 on up complete. iam only telling you about thiis because i have very good deal with detroit axle. that strut for 67.00 complete was for saturn s class check it out, and fine the one you are looking for that fits your ride.

Check rockauto for struts. They generally have a variety for decent prices. Just don't get the ones made in China. I put some on my 99 Grand Caravan and had to replace a bearing because the bastards had put a dry one in. These were the quick strut assemblies.

detroit axle is the supplier....what brand of quick strut?
I'm assuming Monroe since Quik Strut is a trademarked product name.

Also, if you own an S car, be aware that the springs do 98 % of the work on these cars since they are so light; the struts help with settling down the motion post impact more than anything. The exception is really hard jarring bumps.

KYB GR2s --
front ---50 % stiffer than stock (and you feel it on the hard hits but get used to it because that iss the new reality.
rear -- same stiffness as stock.

Monroe's mounting hardware sucks -- think of this post while you're trying to use their HW for the rear struts up against the back window

The struts and springs on my car weren't replaced until 170K miles. Made the car look like it had a lift kit!:D

Exactly --- did struts only all four corners at 180K.
Put so much rake into the car that some clueless dude in a truck pulled up next to me and asked if I wanted to race the very next day

Racing a stock Saturn is like seeing if you can find a kleenex box and wipe your nose before you have to do it with the back of your hand...it can take a long time

Racing a stock Saturn is like finding a box of kleenex and finding it empty, and using the box to wipe your nose.

Don't ask.
