Logically there must be another way to remove it. Might have to remove a bunch of stuff to get clearance, but it must be doable.
As for having a 08 vue XR, I owned one for a few years. If you have not had a 35r waveplate issue and are out of the extended warranty coverage, dump the vehicle. Oh it was extended warranty coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles and the 10 years is up so there is no extended coverage left. It is a $2,400 repair minimum. A whole mess of break issues as well that don't seem to develop until over 100k. Don't get me wrong we loved the vehicle, and we were lucky enough to have the 35r waveplate issue occur at 98,000 mi. However posts I have read on this board indicate that the vehicle becomes quite problematic as it ages.
