Smile 04 vue misses when cold

hi, new here I have a problem with my new to me 04 v6 vue. when I start it up in the morning it misses a little bit. after it warms up it purrs like a kitty. after a month or so of this it will throw a code, miss fire number 1 cylinder. so I delete the code and it stays off for another month or so. I have replaced the plug and coil on number 1 cyl but it continues to miss when cold. and throw the code. I really like the vue but im puzzeled on this miss fire. runs great when its warmed up. thanks, gray top 40

Pull the plug boot off if you can. Is there any oil in the plug well that shouldn't be there? Oil can pick up inside the boot and short out the spark either intermittently or constantly if the cam cover seal around the well is leaking.

Also, you may want to try pulling the plug before you start the vehicle to look for signs of oil collecting on top of the piston. Of course, the chance of you catching it with the pistin tdc is low. You may have oil leaking past a valve guide seal. If this is the case then you should see a puff of smoke out the exhaust.

Could certainly be strictly ignition system related...

I think most car pcms have misfire counters for each cylinder, and when the percentage of misfires gets high enough, it sets the code. The fact that the code stays away for a month seems to suggest it is not a critical issue functionally, but it should still be tracked down if possible.

thanks derf, when I pulled the coil and plug out I didn't see any oil. that doesn't mean there isn't oil down in the sparkplug hole. I,ll have to get a mirrior an look. I,ve wondered if the computer has a start up loop and does the car have sensors that only work when its cold? thanks again, gray top 40

Is the 04 v6 Vue the Honda? You may have better luck on one of the Honda forums that uses the same engine.

thanks, 02lw300 yes 04 was the first year of the 3.5 honda v6. great engine so far. its been very well takin care of but still has the cold start issue. I will check some of the honda fourms for any info on this problem. I wonder if the computer is a Saturn design or honda. thanks again, gray top 40

I would imagine the engine/transmission control is by Honda, and the body control module is by GM.
