Muffler

Discovered a hole in the muffler of my sons 2008 VUE, 3.6 liter engine. Imagine my surprise when I could not find a muffler or any components anywhere. Rock Auto does not sell the mufflers, tail or exhaust pipes nor does AZ, Advanced or O'Reily's. The entire system is one piece welded together available from GM for including freight about $1000. There are two mufflers, one in the front close to where it connects to the manifold and them the large regular sized muffler in the rear with the two chrome exhaust tips exposed. The rest of the system looks good and solid. The hole is on the top of the muffler, hidden from sight as there is a heat shield right above it. Has anyone had any luck with an aftermarket muffler that would fit and be a close match? With thousands of mufflers out there I am sure there is something that is close that would work but I don't know how to research it. Hard to put $1000 into a 12 year old vehicle but it may come to that.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sat...5ca084e76.jpegDoes it look something like this only with two tailpipes? This one fits an Opel Antera with a 4 cylinder.

If this is what it looks like please provide some measurements and we can help with suggestions. Can you modify exhaust where you live or does it have to remain 100% OEM?

Napa 50075 is the four cylinder muffler for your car, it looks like the picture I posted in #2. If you are going to keep the car long term OEM is probably the way to go. If you are planning on getting rid of it or just want it quiet again this muffler will probably work. Napa doesn’t make anything they just resell parts made by someone else. So that is probably a Walker number or you can cross it.

You might be able to adapt a 50081, it has two tailpipes. The inlet is in a different spot and you might have to modify the tailpipes to fit your bumper. You might check with a local muffler shop in your area and see if they can make something work for you.

He has the 3.6 V6 not the 2.2.

Check check out this link. It seems to be worth about $650.

No that is not close. Its a V6 3.6 liter and the rear muffler (there are two) has two tail pipes that make it look like dual exhaust but they both come out of one muffler.

Any decent exhaust shop should be able to come up with something that will work.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested the muffler repair stuff you can purchase at most auto parts stores. So, I'm suggesting it.

That's way too obvious, Rube.

I suppose you could fix it for inspection as a short-term fix that way. If it is under the edge of the muffler strap, you may be able to use the strap to hold the patch in place.

Have you looked at my link for the Mazda muffler above?
