Intake noise
 

2002 Saturn Vue, 3.0 v6 I have a loud growl or roaring noise that sounds like it is coming from the resonator. It seems to happen mostly when the engine is cold and only with part throttle. With more throttle, it goes away. Much less noticeable when the engine is warmed up. Any ideas as to the cause?

I had no noise whatsoever from my 02 lw300, which has the same engine. Is there a missing part to your air cleaner? Car manufacturers go to great lengths to get rid of intake droan. K&N cone filters really sound cool to kids and so do coffee can mufflers.

Are you sure the resonator is firmly attached? MAybe what you are hearing is a vibration of the resonator (resonator resonance) and not the air rush. Is it only when driving or does it happen in the driveway too?

Resonator on tight, no parts missing. I'm wondering if the intake runner valves inside the manifold are opening or closing as they should? I can't explain the noise any other way.
