How do you get these stupid lug nuts off 2008 Vue?
 

How do you get these nstupid wrapped lug nuts off? I rounded the cover using a six point socket, then I chiseled off the cover and rounded the NUT using a six point socket! Then I tried to split the nut with a chisel, but the metal is too soft. Now I have removed most of the metal from the end of the nut, and it hasn't budged? These are the worst designed lug nuts I've seen in 65 years of wrenching!

Where you're using a standard or metric socket? Pretty sure they're metric.

Ford has had massive problems with bulging two-piece lug nuts that have the outer cover. It swells from moisture freezing in it and corrosion, and when you try to put a socket over it it does not fit.

Not sure if they are the same for the Vue. Anyway if you've ripped the cover off then you end up with access to a nut that is smaller than the outer.
I have a two-ended socket that is 18.5 mm on one side and 19.5 mm on the other side. Basically it's a half step size socket. Found it on Amazon.

It makes me think that whoever owned the vehicle previously has not rotated their tires in a hell of a long time nor have they changed their brakes. Those puppies are probably rusted on. (Duh)

You may need to spray a penetrant like blaster in there to go after the rust, but obviously you don't want that stuff on your wheels as it will likely damage the finish.

Using a torch is probably not advisable as the heat may damage the wheels.

If it is really that bad I might consider the proper sized impact socket and cranking up the torque on an air gun to intentionally snap the stud off if the nut does not release. You will of course have to replace all of the studs, but if they are that rusty where the lug nuts come to rest, you may need to do so anyway.

If I cant get em to budge jumping on the 4 way/or with a 20in breaker bar I soak them in on blaster. Works every time.
