Grinding noise front drivers side of engine

Driving up hill the other day with a heavy load the vue seemed to stutter or miss. It did not seem to make any unusual sounds. I had it towed home on a flat bed and changed the air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. I took it for a test drive and it developed a loud grinding noise from front drivers side. Seemed to be from where you fill the transaxle fluid. The power train failed, I turned off the car and then back on and power returned, I moved off the street and parked it. This is 4 cyl AWD 03 Vue. The trans. failed, and was replaced under warenty at 70,000 miles. I have about 90,000 on it now. I love this car and humbly beg advice from you, the great, wise and experienced. Help me Saturn owners, your my only hope.

What do you want help with? If the transmission has failed again, what is it we can do for you?

I'm not versed in the AWD transmission system on the VUE - but I have heard that they seem to have lots of problems. Good luck with the problem ...

Well, the thing is I don't know it's the transmission, I'm hoping it's not. Is that what it sounds like to you? Is there anything else it could be?
Thanks for the reply.

Take it to a trusted mechanic and have them check the axle. Maybe you've got a defective CV joint.

Trannys are not a normal problem for any VUE unless it has a VTI trans. But it's a little tough for us to tell you what's wrong with your car via the internet. We can all sit here and guess, but that's it. I think Rube gave you solid advise.
