Gear oil question.

Hi there Gang!

Got a question sorta. Differential oil... The Books and a fair bit of the online world talks about GM versatrak "or compatible 75-90" etc.

We have started using mobilube hd plus mg 75w in place of gear oil in most of our industrial and heavy truck applications., is there any specific reason why i couldnt use in in the Vue differentials/xfer case?

Just a thought, another option close at hand would be an 85-140... that would quiet down the gears, and lets face it, the diff is the size of a grapefruit so its not like the difference would be that big.

I would say that the “ compatible 75-90 would indicate yes” use what you prefer.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. We have used 85-140 in more than a few gear boxes to stop them whining. From what I can see, the GM oil is just 75-90 with some FR additives. I think I will probably run the mobile 75. I have had that in the diffs of my Silverado for over 100k and had no issues. We will see.

The front transfer case is a hypoid gear drive. No clutches. The rear diff has a clutch pack. Does that mean different oil specs? I just replaced my t-case and put in 75-90.
