Finding motor for 02 VUE

So, I have the 02 2.2 ecotec with the manual transmission. How do I know exactly what motor I need to replace what’s in it?

I look at car-part.com for interchange information. There are two different style cylinder heads and two different style exhaust manifolds. Look at your engine on the driver’s side end of the head and see if there is a block off plate for an egr valve. Egr port is at the bottom of this picture. This will help sort the engine results. The exhaust manifold drilled and tapped question is not relevant since you can reuse your manifold. This engine is the same for several years and car models.

So, as long as I get a 2.2 ecotec with the egr valve matching my current motor, everything should piece together properly? And match up to my transmission? I have the 5-speed manual, don’t quite remember if I stated that in the op.

Yes, automatic engines bolt to the manual transmissions. I have an engine out of an automatic 2003 in my stick shift 2002 L series. It looks like the 2002 through 2005 from Ions and Chevy Malibus also fit as well as Vue engines. The base engine was used from 2000 to 2005 and maybe 2006 model years.
