Default Bad motor mount

My Vue is vibrating really bad when I accelerate. It used to be when I was pushing it past 60 mph. Now it’s doing it at lower speeds. I believe I need to replace the motor mounts. I also am getting a code for a bad camshaft position sensor, which I’ve changed 3 times. I’m wondering if the excessive vibration of the engine can cause the camshaft position sensor to fail, or at least appear to fail? Or is the sensor causing the shaking? It just seems unlikely that all three sensors would go bad so quickly due to quality issues.

Vibes in the 50 to 60 mph range are often indicative of a wheel or wheels being out of balance. Sometimes the inner sidewall will develop a bulge when defective. This obviously throws things out of balance and is particularly dangerous because the tire can blow out at any moment.

Wheel balancing weights can also fall off, leaving the wheel out of balance.

If your vehicle is way out of alignment, you may be scalloping the tires, meaning the tire is not oriented properly with respect to the road surface -- usually too much toe in--so tire is being pulled forward when it is not facing forward enough, The result being that the wheel does not stay in contact with the road and unevenly wears the tread in such a way that continued use of the tire creates a huge vibration as speed increases.

Have you hit any massive potholes around the time this vibration began? Is the frequency of the vibration constant or does it change with speed? Also, does it change with engine RPM or just the speed of the vehicle going down the road?

Not saying you may not need a new mount, but the above can be checked for less than the price of a new set of mounts.

No. We’ve had it for several years. It’s shaken ever since we’ve had it when it hit 60 - 70 mph.

No to what?
Maybe a wheel was out of balance or the car out of alignment when you got it?

Are the tires worn down to the wear indicators? This can lead to heavy vibrations.

I'm suggesting simple things to check before spending some money.

Does the car run smoothly at idle?

What year model and mileage? Auto/manual?

No big potholes hit. 4 new tires. The old ones wore pretty evenly. No telltale wear patterns. Shakes at idle. You can feel when it shifts into idle at a stoplight and the vibration kicks up. 2009 Vue. Mileage is between 100000 and 150000. I can’t remember off the top of my head. It’s shakes when I have the gas pedal pressed, but rides nice and smooth when I stop pressing it and coast. 50 mph you can feel it, but it’s not that strong. Freeway speeds, it shakes like crazy when I push the gas. But, again, smooth when I let up on the gas.

A defective axle will do the same thing. I had a Caravan one that would damn near shake the steering wheel out of your hands between 50 and 60 and it was an axle.

put the car in parking. step on the gas and see if the engine block moves. There are four motor mounts. the rubber will deteriorate over years. I had to replace 3 out of four. they were all harden and broken.

I’ve gotten 2 done so far. Life is busy. It got a lot better, but started again. I’ll get all 4 done. Do the bolts need to be rechecked for tightness after a while?

I have a 2005 Vue and it does the same thing but only when I drive and come to a full stop it vibrates. I found out the it was the Top side transmission mount that's cracked and needs to be replaced. If you go on YouTube and watch Saturn master techs you will find good information why it vibrates it could be a number of things. The number one problem with Saturns are the mounts that cause the engine to vibrate. While the car is on, open the hood and watch the engine if it vibrates and makes a loud noise while pushing on the gas pedal. If the engine vibrates, have the mounts checked. Good luck finding the mounts. My mechanic cannot locate a top side transmission mount for my 2005 Vue since it's been discontinued.

I need to locate a transmission top side mount #15239920 for a 2005 Saturn Vue 4 cyn. My mechanic informed me it has been discontinued and is having a difficult time finding the mount. I live in Utah. We have few mechanics that work on Saturn cars because they don't make them anymore and the parts are only held for 7 years. Do you have any idea when I can find a dealer or sales distributer?
