2005 saturn vue serpentine belt replacement
 

I have a 2005 saturn vue had for almost a year now. i am new to this so hope i am doing right. my serpentine belt just broke and looked shredded i had no clue but as i am reading i did have a almost growling noise before it broke so i am widow and trying to repair with little help i have had shifter and cable problems from the start. i just love this car and really want to keep it its good on gas and room for grandkids. wondering what all i should check before putting new belt on. my shifting cables i have working for now but i know i am going to replace them soon my carfax shows they have been replaced before along with shifter. any advice i would be so thankful.

I'm going to assume you have a 2.2 4 cylinder 5 speed?

Growling noise is one of the pulleys. Could be tensioner. But best way to tell is while the belt is off, turn each pulley by hand to try and mimic the noise.
Cables stretch over time. I may have a set laying around if interested. Not sure if they still sell them new
