'09 vue FWD fuel consumption/rear axle hub
 

recently changed the brakes on the wife's Vue,been getting around 14-16mpg.
i had thought possibly a dragging pad, but everything was good.
i did notice the rear axle was hard to turn by hand( this was a bare axle hub, no caliper connected)
should the axle not spin fairly easy? it took 2 hands.
there is no noise coming from rear axle, so I'm not quite sure were the problem lies, as this just started.

The parking brake inside the rotor?

Used to get 18 to 19 miles per gallon mixed driving in a 2008 all-wheel drive Vue, 3.6L V6 so that mileage is horrendous for a front-wheel drive unless you live in a very hilly area.

I find trying to turn just the hub a bit tough.
You probably want to have both tires on in order to judge how it is behaving when fully loaded. Might as well have the calipers and pads in place as well to duplicate real-life conditions


How many miles on the vehicle? Have you ever replaced the plugs or the front oxygen sensor?

just hit 100k mileage, plugs changed about 5k ago.
code scanner picked up nothing.
i'll be putting it up on stands this weekend to see if this is happening to both rear axles, a friend suggested
i look at the parking brake, and someone else on the forum mentioned that also,

Front O2 sensors usually last between 100 and 125K. Once they get poisoned, they will read too low (less O2) than is really there. Feedback to the ECM is to richen the fuel mixture. Everything is within spec so it does not throw a code. You just eat gasoline.

If you choose to replace, get the AC Delco part. sometimes the AC Delco part is actually another brands Part either private labeled or actually labeled as the original manufacturer part and tossed in an AC Delco box. You can pull the original to see, but you can probably find the info on the internet. Plus if you pull it and then can't find one, makes it hard to drive.
