Ok lets see what opinions I can get on this one . 2007 VUE 48k miles 2.2l 5spd tranny . Have noted that vehicle has a very discernable shudder from stop to accelerate in first gear . Succesive gears seem to have this slip but not pronounced . This happens only after extended city driving (start/stop) of about an hour . From cold start no shudder at all . Anyone out there at all ever hear of a clutch wearing out with this number of miles ?

Yes I have ........ some people just have no idea how to drive a shifter and get no miles before it''s time for replacement, and other like lets say my Daughter have nearly 200,000 miles on a 2004 VUE 5 speed and see no ill effects in the clutch.

Have been driving clutch vehicles all my life due to increased control and longevity of 5spd tranny wear vs the automatics purchased . This vehicle has not been abused nor taken outside of its design limits when used to pull say my small sailboat . This problem just seems to ghost in and out . Just spent well over an hour and a half of city driving , near dealership , and nothing ! Vehicle is performing perfectly . On other days I have had the thing shake so hard my passengers commented about whats wrong ? Cannot find any physical evidence of say a rear main leak . No burned clutch odor , pedal travel is all well and good . This prob is just not consistant yet to be able to take to dealer and physically show . Just looking for some ideas and Im targeting this clutch area . We also had a previous vehicle 83 Corrolla that had 276k on an original clutch when sold . I have just never heard of one going south unless abused and this one has had a normal life . Thanks for the replys .

I do not think there is any way to check without disassembling the clutch system, but it almost sounds like a broken damper spring on the clutch disk assembly. Just guessing though .....

There''s no magic # of miles which determine how long your clutch will last - its all about driving style and the quality of the clutch I suppose.

The clutch in the Vue is not the smoothest I''ve ever owned but its also not the worst I''ve ever driven.

Part of my "amazement" with the clutch on the Vue is how the clutch "feel" seems to change from day to day. I''ve read posts from other folks mentioning this so I''m not alone...guess its just part of the Vue experience...

I''ve never read or heard anyone say the feel of the clutch changes from day to day .... now if oil has gotten on the clutch from a leak thats another story.
