I am having an issue with getting my car to start. I have a SL2 1996 engine that I blew. I replaced it with a 1998 SL2 engine. I have everything connected. It is turning over but won't start. I replaced wires, plugs, fuel rail and injectors. Everything is connected and the engine block is grounded. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate the help!

did you check for the basics (fuel and spark?)

1-As suggested, does fuel spray out from the fuel rail schrader valve (same as the tire valve)? Yes, continue otherwise troubleshoot fuel pump, fuse, and relay problems.


2-Remove the #2 and #4 coil wires, have someone crank the engine while you observe for sparks across the two coils. No, check again to be sure there are no sparks being generated. The lack of sparking would most likely be the fault of the crank position sensor (CPS). Try removing the other two coil wires to check for sparking across the coils. Still no spark would most likely mean a defective CPS. You should check and remove if necesary the coils for corrosion at the bases, sand down the corrosion on exposed metal including the mounting bolts. Lightly sand the coil towers too. Use a little dielectric grease on the plug boots to prevent future corrosion. Use a little regulargrease on the mounting bolts for corrosion prevention too. If you have spark you'll have to re-check all connections again. The CPS is above and behind the starter.
