Is there an easy way to change the serpentine belt?
Specifically on the twin cam cars... I have an '01 SL2 and I just had to go through swapping the PS pulley which included throwing a new belt on the car. That thing is a son of a (expletive deleted) to get on there if you have big hands...
I was half tempted to support the engine with a floor jack / jack stand and pull the motor mount to give me some room to work... |
your other post says you're done...for the record, it's much easier if you do pull the upper mount

I don't remember, I had mine apart a couple of years ago to change the Alternator and I had problems with the belt tensioner. I seem to remember I had to replace it some time in the past.
But I have had the car for about 12 years and it has been largely trouble free. I have broken down and bought a serpentine belt tensioner wrench. I have worked on way too many east west engines with no clearance for the drive belts to try to loosen tension with the wrong wrenches any longer. |
Like Derf says, jack up the engine and remove the upper motor mount. With an impact, that's that's a 5 minute job...total...and that includes searching for the 15mm deep socket.

The fellas have hit all the "high spots" on serpentine belts, so I'll just say I hope you didn't lose too much skin off knuckles and/or back of your hands ....
