Temp gauge delay?

My daughter's using my '99 SW2 right now, and just before I let her use it I noticed that the temp gauge occasionally would stay in the cold zone for an extended period of time even though I knew the car had been running long enough to be fully warmed-up, and sure enough all of a sudden it would pop up to normal temp for no reason that I could discern....would this be the coolant temp sensor? and, if so, where would that be located?
Thanks a mil in advance!
Tim

Could very well bethe ETCS, and if it is replace the connector also. Buy both from the dealer.

Thanks, Gents! Had a feeling after reading all the stuff in here...I'll confirm or deny after the swap-out for posterity....
edit:....although God knows when that might be, she must be liking the bugger, 'cause she's reeeeaaaal hard to get ahold of nowadays.....lol!
