my friends 2000 saturn sl2 steering wheel is locked and you cant turn the
key. usually in most vehicles you can turn the wheel to the left or right really
hard and the key will turn... but not happening here any tips or tricks for
this?

try pushn down the pedel a few times then holding it and pulling on the steering wheel.

I've experienced this issue over the years, most recently Sat pm. I drowned it overnight with WD-40, did it more than once again Sunday and Monday, or you could also use Lock-Ease or another liquid-graphite formula. He could leave the key in the ACC position, continue treating it, leave the key locked in the car, remember to have the radio and anything else off. I still can't remove my key, will have to put in a new lock, but I can at least for now start and drive it.

Just got off the phone w/ Saturn dealership parts dept. He said it's a common ailment. Mine is a 95 SL2. I was hoping he'd tell me that year/model is interchangeable with a whole lot of other years, cause if that was the case, i'd visit the 5 or 6 salvage lots around me and look for a more recent model with a key and a good-working cylinder. The parts guy said for me, it's only years 95 - 97 that are interchangeable....Anyone know that for a fact, or know different? I'm going to try to work this key out of the lock, and see if my other less-worn key is any better. I could do that at Saturn, so if the less-worn key still doesn't work, or work smoothly enough, for 6 buck they can give me a new key. But I DON'T want to be stuck at the dealership at their mercy...I'd hope first to be able to find an operational cylinder and key from a newer or less-used vehicle in a yard.

I had this happen to my car last year.&nbsp\\; We tried everything, it would not break loose.&nbsp\\; I had to buy the new lock cylinder, or whatever it is called, and my dad had to drill the old one out just to get the new one in.&nbsp\\; It cost me $125 for the part.
