squeaking/whining sound from right front of a 94 sw1

i have been getting a squeaky/whining VERY high pitched sound from the right front of my 94 sw1. i thought at first it might be a dragging brake pad but the sound doesnt change at all with the application of the brakes. both axles, all struts, power steering pump, tie rod ends have less than 5000 miles on them. the pads/shoes have less than 500 miles. the sound was there before i did brakes. the car again, is a 1994 sw1 automatic trans. just out of curioustity, was there ever a factory sunroof in the wagons?

Belt tensioner or idler pulley?

it doesnt seem to be rpm related. i also replaced the pulley when i did struts and axles and the rest around christmas

is this a "noise is only there when car is in motion" or a "noise is there if engine is running" noise?

The answer should help us narrow down the possibilities

I personally have never seen a sunroof in a '94sw1 or sw2 - course, I also haven't seen all the sw1's and sw2's either, although I drive an sw2 myself....

in motion, over about 15-20 mph

derf 08-15-2009 06:31 AM

any change in tone or intensity based on steering wheel position?

bucky katt 08-16-2009 08:01 AM

not sure i can only hear it if theres something for the sound to reflect off of like a curb or fence

okay, no change in noise when i turn the steering wheel.
