Have a 1995 SL2 that's been a great car with a minor problem. When the engine is warmed up, and I put it into reverse, it slams into gear, so much so that I've been through 3 sets of motor mounts. Doesn't happen when the engine is cold, or when I put it into reverse first and wait a couple of seconds. Any ideas? Had the transmission replacedlast year and was told that would do it, but the problem still persists.

Who replaced the tranny and why?....Where did the tranny come from, junk yard?....It's either the valve body or the output shaft nut has come loose.

Auto shop in Mobile. Rebuilt transmission. Nothing wrong with the rest of transmission function.

Forgot. Transmission was replaced because it made a funny sound, sort of a grinding. Someone told me the brakes were bad. They weren't, but it almost had that type of sound to it. Computer read bad transmission.

And you might well be right. I'd have no way of knowing. Thank you for your input. Is that an expensive job, or do you know? Best to take it to the dealership or a transmission shop?

Tranny shops usually dont cost as much as a dealer. I find most of the time the dealer's go overboard in their prices while small time shops will practically give it to you. In my opinion.

Thank you for your expert help. Guess I'm off to find a tranny shop.
