Im working on a 95 Sl2 right now and the problem is that the transmission is grinding hard when shifting into first gear and slightly(not audible but by feel) grinding into all the other gears(3rd is worse than all except first) the clutch was replaced <50k ago and have the car is still driveable but at risk of possible further damage.

- there are times when the car will not shift into first on the first or even first few attempts, but will eventually go in.

- had this car 5 years and the problem started out about 6 months ago being very unnoticeable.

- ive been suggest the slave cylinder but if that were the case i wouldnt hit all the gears at all would i?

sorry if these are dumb questions! im a newb!
thanks for your time.

Any ideas?

I have read in other forums about this problem. If the clutch does not totally disingage from the fly wheel or flex plate, the gears will grind because motion is being transferred to the manual transmissiongears. Like trying to shift gears without a clutch. If the rear seal is leaking oil onto the matting surfaces, they will tend to stick together. Do you notice any oil coming from the matting surfaces under the car, specifically where the bell housing meets the motor?

That would most likely be your tranny if its not going into first slowly it will get harder and harder to shift into first, and my saturn 97 SC2 its hard to throw into first i just had a new clutch put in about 2000 miles ago after the old one burnt out. so maybe there is something wrong with new clutches being put in. and also my car randomly pops out of third if i don't jam the shift all the way up.

i tend to agree with the clutch not disengaging properly but i dont see any fluid on the ground ever... maybe ill check into that some more. but im not really sure how to adjust the throw of the clutch or anything on this car... any advice on clutch adjustments?
