SC2 Front Coil Spring
The driver's side front coil spring on my 01 sc2 just snapped. Is there an easy way to replace this, or is it so complicated that I would need to have a mechanic do it? Also, if I DO take it to a mechanic, is it that big of a job where it would be pretty damn expensive to have replaced?
I've already got the coil springs priced & a compressor rental priced, just wondering if I should just let a mechanic do it, or spend the $120 for parts & compressor and do it myself. By myself, I mean my dad. Thanks for any help you can provide. |
Easy to do, get an alignment when your done.

Or, you can go to one of those u pull it places and get the whole shock tower for about 45$ or less. You won't need the spring compressor. There are only 5 nuts/bolts holding it on.

pull it places?

What he is referring to is a type of wrecking yard that allows you to remove the part you need from their fleet(?) of wrecked vehicles. Usually much cheaper than a traditional wrecking yard, where the parts have already been removed and cataloged ... and definitely cheaper than the local parts houses

Thanks for all your help!

We ended up getting a used strut assembly for $35 from a junk yard, then had Big O Tires remove the old assembly & put the other part on then do the alignment. All in all, I spent about $200 for parts and labor.

Hopefully, that'll fix your problem(s) .....

Well the coil spring is fixed, but my sunroof won't open/close. WTF? Saturn goes out of business & my car goes to sh!t?

OMG your the only SATURN driver in the world that'll have to go to another GM dealer to buy parts.
