Default Saturn SL2 engine knock

I have a 2001 Saturn SL2 that I paid too much for. I bought it on Ebay and was told the engine knocks. It's a 5 speed, a really nice car but it has a DOHC engine. They are available but very expensive. Is it possible to install a SOHC instead and what is involved? Thanks

Might just be cheaper to figure out why the engine you got is knocking .... just my humble opinion here.

I did have a guy take the oil pan off and check the crank at the rod bearings. It was out of round so he had small Chevy V8 bearings that fit and he installed them. The engine no longer smokes but it still knocks on one cylinder. He thinks it's play on the upper end.
