hi, i am new to this forum but have a bit of a project going on. I am stuffing this saab motor :Attachment 1713

into a 1994 saturn sl. i will be describing the project and its challenges here more from the saturn angle, although the project from a saab perspective can be read here :http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh...57#post3114657

Should be interesting. I'm curious as to what kind of electrical, computer controlled problems you're going to be running into. It's not like back in the 50's and 60's when all you had to worry about were starter and alternator connections, more or less.

Why??

Saabaholik 02-11-2014 05:03 AM

Why ? Because the saab is falling apart and is expensive to fix. And, i bought the saturn with a blown motor. Then theres the part where the motor can easily see 250 hp with q tune and that wedged into a 2400 pound car will be quite fun .

Sounds like a blast and a kick in the ass. Keep us posted on how the transplant goes. I actually hope it's a great success for you.

Be sure to post updates as well as pictures. In the mean time stop in the New Member area and give yourselfan introduction. After that open the USER CP and add your first name, location, and car info to your "signature".

so, after a one week delay (snow storm that shut the shop down last saturday) I got a work day on the sonic ****box2.0, got the engine out of the saturn and threw it in the back of the saab. shame, there was a new alternator on that thing.
first off heres why i got the car so cheap:Attachment 1707
closer inspection reveals an oil level that is well above the crankshaft:

well, the motor made a noise so he added oil, the oil level rose to the crank, the oil churned, the oil became a frothy suddsy mass of bubbles, the oil pump then picked up alot of air and thats when things stopped being lubricated and this gem was sent into orbit :

engine out and cradle strippped:

the almost appropriately sized engine bay :

does anybody have info on fitting dodge ram wheels/tires on these cars, looks good from here:Attachment 1712

please note: cv axles from the two cars are almost interchangable, except for length, so that saves tons of headache.

sw2cam 02-22-2014 08:39 PM

It all sounds like a headache to me, and I'm glad it's you and not me.

As my Saturn is a 94 and I have been a back yard hot rodder most of my life this to me sounds like an interesting project. Maybe not very practical, but interesting. I guess if it is successful it might be nice to know more about the SAAB motor. I am amusing it is going in with the transaxle? Automatic or Standard?
