replace Saturn SL1 radio
Hi folks, I hope I'm posting this in the right place! I did see posts for Ion and Vue radios, but figured maybe I need to start a new one. Anyway, I want to replace the standard CD/radio in my 2002 SL1 with a standard Saturn radio that has both the CD player and the cassette player. I have a lot of tapes that I'd like to play, but no way to play them in the current setup I have. I see a few on eBay and they do include my year/model, but I see some of their stock numbers are different. The ones I've seen don't state that they're multiple CD player setups, so I don't know why the different stock numbers. Anyone know the scoop on these radios? Also, is it much of a job to get the original player out and change them?
Thanks for the help, gang. I sure wish Penske had picked up Saturn and continued making them. On well... Ron K. |
I can't answer your questions about the radio apps, Ron, but as far as removal and replacement, these cars are pretty easy to do. Just remove the plastic trim piece around the radio (along with the various a/c, heat and fan control knobs) and then there's four screws that hold them in. Remove them and then just slide the radio forward and unplug the harness connectors and antenna. At least it was that simple in the 94 and 95 that I had.

Hey, thanks Man. I figured I'd have to take the dash top off. We'll see, I guess. :-)

nope---dash can be left intact.
Could you post a pic of your center console and a link to what you're considering on ebay? Thanks |
Well, it's a tad too late to post the pics. :-) I checked the eBay pics over really good and compared it to what I have in the car and everything looks hunkey dorey, so I decided to spring for it. I made an offer of $20, he countered for $25, down from somewhere around $80, and it's guaranteed for 30 days. Plus he has a good rep, so I decided to go for it. I'm sure it'll fit. That sounds good about not taking the dash top off. Next will be to see how things go getting the other one out. :-)
Thanks, Sir. |
Could you still post the link to what you purchased, please?
I was not aware Saturn ever offered a radio/tape/cd combination. I'd like to have a look at one and I'm not waiting till you stop by for dinner...... |
Here's the link for the radio. This is the same buy I bought mine from. He originally had it for sale around $80, but dropped the price with a "Make an offer", which I did and got it for $25. This one is $28. BTW, my wife's LW300 has the combo CD/Cassette radio in it.

I was thinking S Series.... thanks |
I see the listing ended. Did you get to buy it? The S series is included. If you didn't get to buy it, it will probably be listed again.
