I am new to car repair and I would like to take on this project.

I was looking for some advice on how hard this task would be?, I looked over the alternator and there seems to be a belt attached to it?, do I need to replace that as well? Anyone do this before and if so do you have any advice on the procedure? Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my alternator on my 95 sl2. It is a fairly straight-forward procedure. First disconnect the battery and alternator. You will have to take the front right wheel off, and take off the shrouds around the wheel well (they are snapped on).The belt you saw around the unit is the accessory belt, and it comes loose when you turn the tensioner pulley with a wrench (next to the crank). The bolts that hold the alternator on are a pain to get to. It should not take you more than an hour. I suggest getting a Haynes manual.
