Hi, I'm looking to buy a '02 SL1 with 45k miles and I was wondering how reliable this car or Saturn is.. Have you guys had any problems at all with it? I know that this is a saturn forum and it could be biased, but I would like to get any kind of feed back from anyone.. Thanks! Edited by: s0madlan

Get the VIN, take it to a Saturn Dealership, and have them pull the service records. Probably taken there during warranty (3/36K). If oil changed at 3K intervals, and no history of oil burning/ cooling system/ electrical problems, you should be ok.

Also have your mechaninc check it out.

3K oil changes are a must for the S cars -- they will otherwise die an untimely unnecesary death.

If no service records from saturn or the owner, keep looking...

I don't know about anyone else but I have a 97 sl2 with 390,580 on the clock and the car runs fine, a little smoke on startup but that's it. The transmiision is the original but has had the lockup soleniod replaced, valve cover leaks about every 20,000 miles, a/c clutch has gone out, and normal brake wear. If they still build them this good than buy.
