Please HELP me Guys! Shifter Problem

I backed out of my driveway and suddenly my shifter of my 1999 Saturn SL1 5 speed shifter just went totally loose and was flopping everywhere and I couldn't shift it in or out out of gear.
So, I pushed it back into my driveway and found out that the common bushing snapped. Got a new bushing and everything was fine. This was in the summer.

Today I was driving my GF to work and realized that my shifter looked different and not normal. So whats going on is, the shifter (when in neutral) is pushing over to the passenger right side of the car instead of staying neatly in the middle like it should when in neutral. NOT cocked all the way over to the right. Its still drive-able but what do I have to do to fix this?

Thanks and HELP! PLEASE I hate how it looks and feels to have to drive it like this!

Sounds like the little spring just under your shifted boot in your center console may have came off or broke. Small simple part. I don't know if you can get them anymore at a parts store but I know most salvage yard should have a few that should work just fine if needed.

?

What spring are you talking about exactly?
Anyone have any diagram of the assembly to show what spring you think may be the issue?

?

I just drove the car again today and went to put it into reverse and realized that it wont go into reverse or fifth gear.
Cables?

Same issue

I had the same issue on my 97 SC1. It is not actually a spring but a bushing and a clip that holds the ball at the bottom of the gear shift onto the shifting cable. I would not recommend buying it from a salvage yard because if the age it could be damaged easily when taken off. I found my part at a local Reilly's Auto Parts for about $20. you have to take the whole console apart to get to it. it's not an easy task to put on either because of the lack of work space.

Hope this helps ya ;)
