Does a pre- 2000 Saturn, to be specific, a 1998 Saturn SL2, have Pass Lock 1 and or 2? I''m having a remote starter installed and my book says Pass Lock is installed on Saturns 2000 and newer, but the installer says it is on all of them. I know I don''t have Pass Key and I hate to dish out the $80 for the by-pass out of ignorance. If it has Pass Lock then that is fine. If I had not read the book then I wouldn''t question the installer.

Just one more thing (for now). The installer says that because my car has more than 80,000 miles the install may not work. He says it''s been thier experience that Saturns with more than 80K miles sometimes work and sometimes do not. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

TracMil102 ...

I will address the second question first, and save the first question for later. I am not an installer, but the comment made by the ''professional installer'' seems rediculous.

If I bring in my car with 75,000 on it and have the system installed, he is saying that it will work for 5,000 miles and then stop wroking. I cannot understand the comment, because there is no connection to the odometer !!!!

That installer is an idiot. Dont go back to him. The whole 80k this is just stupid. And its extremely simple to bypass the factory system.

The factory keyless entry module is located on the rear passenger side of the car, under the side bolster of the rear seat. All that has to be done is to cut the pink wire and ground yellow/black wire.

Print this page, take it to that installer, show it to him, give him the finger and go elsewhere.

And tell him Mike said hes an idiot. And his mothers an idiot for continuing on with the pregnancy.Edited by: Low Saturn

Thank you for your replies.
I bought a online manual for my 98 Saturn SL2 and as Low Saturn said the Remote Keyless Entry Module is located in the rear passenger side of the car.
I bought the remote starter from Circuit City and the install book has step by step directions to every wire splice and with the help of the manual I can easily find every wire that needs to be spliced. However it would take me (an inexperienced installer) all day to do all the steps and splices and the book doesn''t say where to mount the remote start. I thought by having Circuit City install it for me, for the $100 they want when you buy it from them to install it, I would save myself time and agrivation. But with one phone call my bill was up to $180 for a "normal" install with the bypass and no guarantee it would work when done.
I quess you can''t trust companies anymore.
That is why it''s nice to have forums like this.

Thank you again,

Tom

If you feel you can do it in a day. Then do it. You''ll know its done right. I can post all the needed wire locations and colors for you. And you can mount the brain module wherever you like. As long as its close to where you''re hooking everything up. I suggest removeing the upper dash cover and installing it behind the instrument cluster.

Welcome Gene, please introduce yourself in the new member section. Then ask your questions as a new thread if you can’t find the answer in the threads. Posting to a 10 year old thread won’t get many responses.
Thanks
Andy
