Parts car interchangeablity
I hate to be that guy, but I have to be that guy. My 2000 sl1 with a sohc 1.9 became a parts car today. Rear trailing arm mounts rotted out and I cant weld to save my life. Welding shop wants more than its worth. So I'm looking for a daily driver replacement and keep my poor little sl1 as a parts car. It is to my understanding after reading the swap guide on saturnwiki that I should be looking for a 99-02 sl1/sl2 to ensure the most parts interchangeablity. I'm just verifying this. The swap guide is fantastic but TMI for this rather simple question. Thanks in advance!!

Sounds about right. Stay with the 3rd gen sedans-the years you mentioned. If your parts car has a plastic intake manifold, you may wish to stick w 2000 and up.
Remember that the sx1 and sx2 have different trim options and may have different switches here and there. I don't know if the PCM and BCM are identical between the two trim levels and programmed differently, or if they are actually different parts. If you can find a nice 2000 sl1, that's by far your best option. Anything with a twin cam in it loses you all kinds of engine parts |
Thank you very much for the reply Derf. My 2000 has an aluminum intake so it must have been an early year model. I picked up a 99 for $650 last night, the body is in much better shape but has higher miles. Perfect for what I need
