Probably overtightened the cover.... adhere to torque specs.Edited by: derf

but it was leaking before to and it was the stock cover

Replace the gasket with a new preformed gasket and only use RTV in two small dabs where the timing chain cover meets the head. Then torque the bolts in the proper sequence to the correct torque.

So the original gasket failed after12 years I''d say you got your money''s worth out of the original.

Did you ensure that both the head and the cover surfaces were clean and free of previous gasket material?

yea i did im going to look at it tomorrow maybe i did miss something

Just remember that having the bolts too tight is just as bad as too loose.

If it''s just oil in the spark plug wells I''m betting you just didn''t use enough RTV in the circular valve cover grooves that surround the wells when installed. I wouldn''t skimp on the RTV at these locations. When you pull the cover it will be easy to see where the oil leaked from.
