I let go of the clutch while still in first gear, (parked, melting the ice) and heard a loud pop. I tryed to drive forward and the car would not move, I was also overwhelmed with burning oil and smoke..
What could I have done!? |
From your posting, it seems that the engine was still running, but the car was not moving. Since you have a manual transmission, it could be anything from the clutch system down to the CV joints by the tires.
You reported being ''overwhelmed'' with smoke ... since there is no oil in the driveshafts or CV joints, I am betting that the clutch or transmission system has failed in some major manner. Please remember this, although these little cars are built pretty well, they are designed for economy, not brute force displays of speed and acceleration |
You blew the differential pin through the transmission casing. Time for a new/replacement transmisson.
This is very common with Saturn transmissions. Automatic or manual. When both tires loose traction then one suddenly gets traction, this happens. You can eliminate this happening by welding the diff pin in place. Mine is welded in place. |
+1. Blown differential pin
