Default New intake on my 97 SL1

So I put a new intake on my Saturn SL1 SOHC. (link down below to the intake in question)

Because so far I'm loving it. My little Saturn feels like it definitely has a little more power and needs less throttle to get to speed.

I also love the sound profile it's making now A LOT more throaty.

Is this inline with this kind of upgrade has anyone else here done this to their Saturn's?
Does anyone else have experience with this intake?

I ask because i've also only put about 100 miles on it so far and it hasn't popped any codes or anything

You MIGHT notice a drop in your mpgs now that you have that thing on there. Sure, they sound cool, but are basically a waste of money IMHO.

All fair points. But the main reason I am getting it is the fact I live on a farm with WAY too many field shrews and mice. They like to nest in the stock plastic housing whether it be in the sound baffle or right snug underneath the filter. (this can happen weekly depending on what season it is)
But, with this being intake metal and not giving the mice somewhere warm to sleep and clog my intake. I'm saving money on filters and i am definitely keeping the stock intake safely in my work shop. just in case!
Also, if this destroys my MPG then i'll just probably use it seasonally.
Thank you for the information and opinions Grcauto8453 and rubehayseed!

Now that you mention it Gary, I've been seeing a whole lot fewer rice mobiles then even 5 years ago, let alone 10. It seems like the kids of the guys that did all that all show no go mod stuff are not really interested in doing the same to their vehicles. Could just be where I live, but I pull up just a very few of those vehicles. Though it is funny when I'm driving my '95 coupe and I pull up next to one of those at the stoplight. My car sounds a little louder than stock even though it's as close to stock as it can be. That and the idle is a little rough right now. So they think I have something under the hood. I will visually egg them on having the light turns green they peel out and I go nowhere.

You are absolutely right it's the little things in life. I personally like the sound more now especially when it was only about a 15 minutes install and will probably be the only thing i ever take away from stock.

my brother in law on the other hand is someone who puts a turbo on every civic or Honda for that matter and does stupid things to the mufflers so they're obnoxiously loud and blow up. He's been through more vehicles in the last 6 years than i've had in my entire life. (30 years old btw) I've only ever liked one of his creations personally and it's a monstrosity. He turned a lowered turbo'd civic into a two seater truck by simply taking out the back seats cutting off half the roof and trunk and welding in an old tailgate. he uses the thing to haul stuff from his scrap yard job. Guys a fruit loop. But i love him.

Sorry about the rant. but the talking about rice cars/mobiles reminded me of him.

Some mint oil on the air filter will deter mice from nesting. Just a few drops on the filter top and bottom and they hate the smell. If they're nesting in the air box, where the heck else might they be?

I didn't know that. That's some great information i could have used for years my poor first car was always infested with mice... That poor 1989 Ford Tempo. Oh well I got that car for giving there son $150 in guitar lessons.
Oh well! Live and learn!

I wonder if that would work on the wiring. I've been told that the electrical wiring in automobiles used to be coated with a substance that has since been determined to be either carcinogen or destructive to the environment. It was replaced by insulation that is impregnated with vegetable oil. The vegetable oil attracts all types of rodents and is conceivably a large reason why mice are attracted to the vehicle in the first place. Then they find out that the engine compartment is warm.

I can't prove any of this because I've never looked it up to verify it, but if anyone knows if it is true or not, it would be cool to know
