ok i have a 98 sl and i was drivin today and all of a sudden i lost all electrical power, no battery dummy light or anything, the radio went, running lights and all the gauges but the car was still running. I have also noticed that when i put the key in the ignition and turn it over to acc or to the run postion the needles on the tach and the speedo will just flutter at the 0 mark.

I personally think it has something to do with the grounds on the car but i dont know honestly so if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it

it does sound like it could be a ground.....or a loose arcing wire.

Sounds like low charge on battery.

Is battery near the end of its expected life span?

Check wiring at battery terminals for corrosion and tightness.

the battery i think is ok i think its only been in the car for about a year. does anyone know where i can get a diagram of where all the grounds are

Ok as a former saturn employee and also now a sl owner, i know exactly what is wrong. You need to replace your ignition switch. This happend to me not to long ago, and i''ve seen it a thousand times. If you take it to a saturn dealer there is a recall or bulletinon it. To solve it without a dealer, turn the car off and back on.

If you still want a diagram of the wiring harness for the grounds, I can get you one, but that''s not your problem.

try jumping the car...it may be that the alternator is gone and your car is only running on the battery (being why it just died and want start up. Just a guess

It sounds like the classic dead alternator symptoms. If you have more than 50,000 miles on the car, chances are very very good that its the alternator.
