I have a 96 SL2 Saturn with some problems but the biggest one is that now and then when you are driving it it will stall on you. Or some sometime it will have crazy rpm like it was schocking on something. I have replaced the MAP sensor but it hasn't done anything good. I need to know what else should I check.

check ur torque converter if its an auto trans, also clean ur IAC (idale air control) it could also be a restriction in the fuel lines. but im sure its ur torque converter if you have an auto they are known to do that

I not sure if it will be the torque converter, but i think ur getting real close with IAC, because it is having major fuel consumption. Would the Injectors be something else to look at? Ill say too that the fuel is going in too rich, maybe can help in something to figuring out this problem. Its such a headache, but cant affort any new car.Edited by: ReydraX5

check ur fuel filter thats a cheap fix like 5-10 dollars at a parts store, fuel pump might be going. have you felt a loss in h.p.??? i live in the chicago aria. if you are not to far from it you could stop on by and ill hook a computer to it and run dyno test on it for so you can find the exact problem. also something for me. check ur air filter. tell me if it smells like gas. if so i might have the fix you need.

Unfortunately I live in Killeen, Texas. It would really help if i could get my car tested with the Scanner, but its to expensive here to get it scanned. Plus there is no body who will work on it except me since they say saturn are problem cars and if they were to work on it they charge way too much for something thatI could just replace. The ingine has been replaced once, but my mother has taken bad care of the second used engine. And about the Air filter it smells alittle of gas on it, not much. The fuel filter i changed it in December so I dont think it could be bad already and it still had that problem. Ekk and about fuel pump i hope it isn't going bad because then that would suck because it isn't cheap. I am having loss of HP. I think the problem is some were in the Intake if im not wrong. Any info helps. Thanx!

hate to brake it to ya, if your engine isent shot then its you need to replace the tourqe converter and for that lil gas smell, its the fuel pressure regulator thats what i fixed on my car i also fixed it on my buick because i had the same thing w/ that. if you want i have all next to naw parts for ya. my car was t-boned by a drunk about 6 hours ago. i have a brand new foruged motor that i bilt myself. i bilt it for racing. it can withstang 16psi of boost so if you using it for daily driving then that thing will never blow as long as you change the oil every 3k miles. i have that fuel pressue regualtor and pump only about 3 weeks old i just replaced all that. also i can get parts for your car if you need because up here saturns are what EVERYONE drives. if you know how they work like i do... you make a killing. but that motor i have is a $3,200 motor make me an offer and ill sell. also about the fuel pump and regualtor they were 700 all for both. the pump costing most of that. make an offer and i will be glad to ship. I WISH YOU LIVED BY CHICAGO i could have your car fixed in the blink of an eye

Crazy RPM gyrations followed by stalling probably points to the EGR
valve sticking -- especially if the car won't start for about 2 minutes
after it stalls -- but then is fine after it sarts again.........

I have 2 Saturns of same general age and 350K+ mi on them (175k + each) -- you're about due if you're near 100K.

You can flush the EGR or buy a new one.
