Well GOLLY -- the post wasn't mine -- it belongs to the revered OceanArcher

Just knew it was out there Rube. Some people need to see the same thing in more than one form to fully understand it.

That and you're fun to mess with

Cheap shot mentioning that other name, man. I thought we were friends. I haven't heard from him in ages!

Rubehayseed and Derf please check my first posting I did check for codes and got no trouble code but a 12.

Sorry about that, dude. I completely missed that. Check the connector to your ECTS. Mine had a broken one and caused a few anomalies until I replace it and the sensor.

what is an ects and where is it

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Used to measure coolant temp and sends info back to the PCM. Influences many things including air/fuel mix.

Being a 95, yours has two coolant temp sensors a single wire sensor thart drives the dash gauge and a 2 wire device that is used by the PCM. You want the TWO wire sensor. It is sticking out of the driver's side of the cylinder head.

Connector is a squeeze connector.

Sensor is threaded into the head. If you find a resin tipped one it will likely be cracked. Regardless, replace with an OEM sourced two wire ECTS and connector sourced from a GM dealer. $40 altogether and connector is dealer only part. Even minor corrosion on connector wreaks havoc on reading.

Got it running, the catalytic convector was eaten up and the remains were stuck in the tailpipe after i unclogged the tail pipe it runs like a champ

derf May 28, 2014 03:34 PM

damn. that's a long trip for those bits.

I guess a car with no exhaust path would be a problem

Glad you got it running.

Just another example of how the forum experience can guide, but without being there to hear, touch , and play with, we can only be so helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to come back and post the resolution. It may help others in the future.
