Motor replacement

I have a 97 SL1 they got totaled and I was wondering if the motor from that swap into a 2000 SC2. Both 5 speed tranny

Haven't answered a swap question in a white.....

For this to work

Since you'll be using the 2000 SC2 body .you need to use the BCM and ECU in the 2000, as the 2000.ECU controls the engine only and the BCM controls everything else. This is not true for the 97, which does not have a BCM.

The third gen sl and sc coupes (pre 2000) have a vertically mounted throttle body. All previous s cars have horizontally mounted throttle bodies. Not sure what all needs to be swapped if anything for the horizontal throttle body to "fit". Physically it should fit fine but I dunno about the sensor wiring and the throttle cable already in the 2000

Additionally, the 2000 engine has a smog pump on it; didn't get into s cars until 98 so I don't believe there is a provision for adding one to the 97 engine. So you will have an eternal SES light and will fail emmissions

The two trannys are not identical. 97 engine is a SOHC, the 2000 was a DOHC. The manual tranny gear ratios are different.

And since the incoming engine is a SOHC, the ECU will need to be flashed to be a SOHC. Once you do that, I believe you are obligated to flash the BCM to be for an SOHC coupe.

Depending on the car's options, the SOHC BCM may not be able to control options that are DOHC only.

Simple questions turn into a rats nest when you try to swap 2nd gen to 3rd AND DOHC to SOHC.

USE THE ABOVE INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

In fact you are much better off getting a second opinion to confirm whether I am correct or not.
