The PCM's rarely ever have problems in these cars.

1991-1999 PCMs are located under the left side of the dash above and to the left of where the clutch pedal or where the cluch pedal would be if you have an automatic. 2000-2002, its located behind the battery.

I've been reading this and doesn't look like anyone has asked for a double check on timing. Since you replaced the head gasket did you also put in a new chain/guides or reuse the old one.? Sounds to me like it could be off a tooth one way or nother. You've allready covered pretty much everything elso that I would have checked except maybe carbon build up inside the phlenum? Might want to take a flashlight and look in from the throttle control and see if thats built up a bunch.
Just throwing that out there....

Interestingly I asked that right away myself about the timing. I also asked the tech that was working on it and he said it was perfect. I did reuse everything and did not replace anything. I have not looked at the throttle body yet, but I will in the morning and let you know.

Just as a follow-up with you guys...I SOLD THE CAR! I tried and tried and could not make heads or tails with the problems I was having. I was amazed at how much interest I had in the car even with the problems. A car dealer ended up purchasing it for $1450, so, I did not get beaten too badly.

I ended up purchasing a 2005 Dodge Stratus SXT with about 10,000 miles on it for next to nothing. So it did end up on somewhat of a good note. I really would have liked to have kept the car though.

Thanks for all the help even though nothing panned out. I really do appreciate it!

Mark

oh please tell me you didnt trade your saturn for an 05 stratus... my friend had a white 05 status sxt fot a rental after she got rearended and she had me drive, the ride was rough, the 2.7 4cyl was slow and the seats where hard. it only had about 12,00. miles i think but it was just a peice. hopefully yours is better than that one was but idk.

No. Actually I paid $5,000 cash for it. I sold the Saturn outright right after I bought the Dodge. I am actually pleased with this one. It has the DOHC 2.4L engine. I flew out to Baltimore, Maryland, to pick it up and drove it home. I thought the mileage would have been better, but it is much better than the Saturn and much more comfortable. I think it rides pretty good for what it is though and I rarely ever get "into" the gas, so, as long as it goes down the road, I''m ok with it.

Sucks that you had to get rid of it. Sometimes trying to E-Diagnose a car on-line can be difficult. If the car was in front of me, I most likely could of got the problem solved.

I know what you mean. I hit the wall a little too hard and couldn''t deal with it anymore. My head still hurts from it....
