So my car has 154,000 miles on it. Besides changing the oil every 3-5k miles I've done nothing to it in the past 4 years other than a brake job. I researched here and the manual and went out and got plugs and wires, air filters, pcv valve, trans filter, oil filter, new fluids, flushed the radiator, kinda giving here a nice tune up. Anyway I called the "zone" and asked about a fuel filter for my 2000 SL2 and they said they have a lifetime fuel filter that doesn't need to be replaced. Is this true? Seemed weird to me, but who knows. Anything else I should do in the way of preventative maintainence, fluids, filters, plugs and wires?

Well the tune up is done. The trans filter WAS original so I'm gonna assume the fluid was too. My wife bought the car with around 30k and other than brakes and oil never did anything. I'm pretty guilty of neglect too, but I've turned a new leaf! The fluid was fine, smelled a little burnt, but that's all. Changed the belt, all fluids, Flushed the coolant, plugs and wires! Replaced a leaky brake hose and caliper, new pads all around and I'm ready to roll!
I hope to get 40k more at least, if I get close to 200k I'd be happy. Quick question, what should my idle RPM be? I'm sitting at around 800ish. Now if I could just find that bra for cheap used!!! |
800 is normal.
