Default Keyless entry? how to determine if i have it or not?

I have a 1996 sw2 wagon and i would like to know how to find out if it ever had a keyless entry system or not. i got the car and it seems the only key i have for it was the spare otherwise known as the valate key. so it does have power locks/windows/mirror and cruise control wondering if i have keyless entry as well. is there a box reciever thing somewhere like in my mazda millenia there is a black box tucked away with the reciever frequency info labeled. let me know please thank you.

I suspect you can call a Saturn Parts dept -- give them your vin and they should be able to find out what the car originally came with.

The other way to find out would be to stop by the dealership and see if they have a vintage keyless entry fob you can play with-- these could be programmed to sync with any car provided you held the lock and unlock down simultaneously for 10 sec or so. If the car responds (cant remember if it unlocks the doors, beeps the horn, etc...) then yes you have it.

I suspect the receiver for this is part of or near the body control module......

Actually, when did the BCM come into existence for these cars? I know 97 has one, not sure about earlier....

96 is the first year for the obdII and it does have that i read somewhere to program you have to put a jumper wire between two terminals on that obdII data port i am not about to try that though does not seem right

nice to know that works...

Is that a "reset" for the system?

Which terminals on the data port?

it could be used as a reset if you want but it activates program mode for the keyless. first put the key in the ignition (just putting it in and not turning it will set it so when you lock the doors the horn chirps if you want it to be silent turn to acc) looking at the data port in 1996 and newer saturns place a small guage wire in the 4th and 8th prongs on the top row 1st one being from the left to right. the locks will unlock then lock same with the rear hatch thats how you know it entered the program mode this is all while the key is in the ignition then hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote for 10-30 seconds or unil the locks cycle again then remove the jumper wire from the data port and your all set the keyless will be programed to the one remote as for multiple i am not sure.
