Ignition Cylinder

Hey all!

My ladyfriend drives an Sl1 with 180k miles on it.

About a week ago she lost her keys.

We had an extra ignition cylinder (with its own keys) so we called a locksmith to replace it. They got the new cylinder in. But the car won't start now.

(we did not pay them)

The key turns all the way to Start.

No noise.
no clicks.
no light.
no nothing.

Help Plox.

Sounds like someone forgot to plug something in to me. But, what do I know?

If you have the Passlock security system, it must be reset and this will have to be done at a GM dealer or any mechanic who has a GM scan tool or GM compatible scan tool.

If the ignition switch was not installed in the correct sequence, it is possible that the link between the lock and the switch was damaged.

For future reference, next time the keys get lost, go to the GM dealer with the VIN code. They can look up the key code based on that and cut you a new key. Unless it is an electronic key, a new key cut this way should not run more that $6-8. an electronic key may run quite a bit more if they have to reset the Passlock.

I have recommended to people in the past when their key gets worn out to the point where it is difficult to use, to use this service at the dealer instead of going to wally world and having a duplicate worn out key cut. It has always worked and it never costs too much.
