I have an issue with my 1995 Saturn SC2. I have a manual transmission and the issue is when I put my car in neutral the car idle''s fluctuate from 1000 to 0, almost stalling but it does not, it may vary between both but it has not stalled yet. I had this problem before about 2 years ago and I replaced the egr valve and the issue went away. This time I tried to replace the egr valve but it did not help. Any thoughts before I start trying to replace parts, there is no "Service Engine Soon" light on.

I recently had a problem similiar to this, especially when I shifted into neutral and decelerated to a stop. In my case, the engine would occasionaly stall.

I removed the IAC (intake air control) valve and found that the pintle had quite a bit of carbon deposits. I cleaned this up with carb cleaner, as well as the throttle body, and now I don''t have the idle fluctuation problem. Just clean the pintle, don''t soak the whole valve in solvent or you may damage the electrical components.
