I own a sl1 2000 with a manual shift transmission. What does keep the engine running up to 2000 rpm''s at every gear change? I am concerned about the premature clutch wear. I can''t make a quick gear change without feeling the car jerking forward whilenot touching the gas pedal. This drives me crasy.I road tested my friend''s car and hishas the same problem. Is there any good mechanic out there who can tell me how to alter this problem?

Thank you

What does it idle at in neutral (while not moving)?

Hello Derf

Thank you for responding. I thinkI know where you are getting at. There is no vacuum leak at all. It idles at 725 rpm when hot without moving the car. I put on the OBD11 tool and it doesn''t show any code.https://www.saturnforum.com/smileys/smiley5.gif

OK, this may be a shot in the dark, but what RPMs do you accelerate to in the lower gears ??

tintin 02-17-2009 09:18 PM

2,000-2,500 rpms. I don''t rev upthe motor to highin low gear.

Thank you for responding.

How many miles on the car?

Try cleaning the throttle body (plate may be hanging up).

I know you have stated there is no vacuum leak; have you verified this by spraying throttle body cleaner around the intake manifold and throttle body gaskets?

Can also try changing the ECTS and connector. The symptoms are not textbook but it is a $14 part and is the root cause of many a Saturn woe.

it has 204,500 km ( 122,000 miles). The intake gasket has been replace at around 75,000 miles.)

Ok I will clean the whole assy. (the throttle body)

I''ll get back to you.

Thank you again

Two other friends of mine are having similar problems, and mine is ocasionally starting too.
It seems that it is the ECTS that derf mentioned. There are a few other threads about this, and that seems to be the consensus. But let us know what works!

and or clean the throttle body.
