Hello all. Name is Ross. My Girlfriend just bought a '94 SL with the
1.9L SOHC motor and a 4 speed Auto tranny. Me being the car modder I am have already started looking up mods and parts. I currently own an '01 Eclipse Spyder GT that you can see in the link in my sig. ANd am the previous owner of a '91 Storm GSi which apparently has some swapablity with this car. My qustions are these: 1: The car has some kinda intake manifold/TB setup on it that dosent look like any of the manis Ive seen in any pics on here. It has the TB facing upon the acc side of the engine with what appears to be a single injector in the opening. WTF?? I see all this talk of the DOHC intake and exhaust manifolds but do the SOHC and DOHC heads have the same port design, spacing, and pattern and will the DOHC stuff bolt up with minimal modification? 2: I see the 91-92 exhaust manis (SOHC or DOHC one) are just about as good as any header available but as with the previous is that only for the DOHC and will not work for the SOHC? 3: The blocks are all the same from what I have read so theoretically the DOHC will bolt up to a block that came with a SOHC correct? Will the stock ECU work fine for this or will I need a DOHC ECU or are they all the same. I am a good fabricator and extreamly well versed in FI applications and motors and suspensions so by minor modifications I mean I dont need a Lathe and Mill but welding and cutting and stuff is acceptable. So far Im lookin at these things for sure. Different Intake manifold with Storm GSi TB all ported and polished. 91-92 91-92 Exhaust Mani with custom 2.25-2.5" exhaust with 36" hushmaster resonator and a flowmaster 40 muffler. Cat less. Custom CAI with K&N filter. KYBs and 1.5" drop springs. 17x7" somethings with 225/40/17 Toyos. Solid motor mounts. Dont care about the body, as long as it runs. |
I was looking at a few Saturns today at Pick-A-Part that had SOHC engines and I'm not sure if much will bolt up between the two. I don't know anything for a fact, but they looked very different from one another. But as for point number 3, the DOHC ECU is different from the SOHC ECU. For more info, I suggest sending a message to Ducky or Derf (or a couple others that slip my mind at the moment) and ask them directly if you don't wish to wait for someone to cruise the boards. |
