Hey all, recently got an ''01 SL1, and I''ve noticed a small problem. After driving for long periods at high speeds (highway driving) the engine will run at high rpm while in Idle. I exit the highway, drive 2-3 minutes to a gas station, and sitting in the gas station the car will idle at 1500 rpm.... Not sure what it could be, it''s stick shift, with cruise control, it could be a malfunction of that, but i don''t suspect so....

Any help is appreciated

Ok, so , an update....
This is actually my brothers car, when I went and tried to re-create the situation, it would not, so then we both went driving. It does not nessisarily need to be on the highway, just going quickly. He (for some reason) puts the car into neutral to decelerate. When he does this, the engine will stay at the rpm that it was at before. and will remain there indefinetly, untill put back into gear, and slowed down. It will not idle that high unless put into neutral at a higher RPM (if I get off the highway and leave it in gear untill I have slowed, it will idle normaly)
Doesn''t seem like a big deal, but if it is the cruise control of the computer malfunctioning, I''d like to know.

I believe the PCM keeps the RPMs up based on the speed of the vehicle among other things, though it should not do so indefinitely.

The fact that it seems to work fine when decelerating while in gear, however, seems to rule out most obvious sources of such behavior. I believe the difference in engine load is the main variable here and engine load brings vacuum into the picture...

I would check for vacuum leaks...

Outside chance the ECTS is to blame as it often leads to high idle conditions, but the inconsistent behavior you describe doesn''t quite match up with your garden variety ECTS related high idle scenario.

i have a 2000 sc1 and my car starts revving high for no apparent reason. no highway driving just in town can even make it happen. And about highway driving shifting into neutral to decelerate, my RPMs stay decently high for about two seconds before dropping to about 1000 RPM
