SON HAS A 93 SATURN. WHEN STARTED, RPM'S GO TO 4000, EVENTUALLY COME BACK DOWN TO NORMAL. WHEN PUT IN REVERSE IT GOES BACK HIGH AGAIN ANDTHEN TRIES TO CUT OFF. IF YOU PUT IT IN NEUTRAL IT WILL GO TO ABOUT 4500 RPM'S. WHEN IN DRIVE IT WILL IDLE AT 55MPH OR MORE. WHAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM? ANY HELP?

Throttle plate sticking? (clean throttle body)
Bad ECTS? (Engine Coolant Temp Sensor)
Vacuum leak?
Idle air control (IAC) issue?

SES light on? What codes are stored?

Post codes before playing "swaparoo" with the sensors...

DERF,

Thanks a million. Took off throttle body, cleaned it all out. lots of carbon...also took out IAC and cleaned it. it had alot of carbn built up. Put it all back together and it runs like a new car. Did not have to buy any new parts.

Glad to help.

Since it is a 93, I'm sure it burns a lot of oil. Alot of the deposits are from the vapors recirc'd back to the throttle body through the EGR. You'll want to do this frequently. You don't have </span>to remove the throttle body to periodically clean it -- you can do it while on the car -- same with IAC (now that you have them back to a baseline "clean").
