Default Engine swap

So, my sw has almost 230,000 miles on it, doesn't smoke (occasionally on start ups but very rarely), runs strong, only uses about a quart of oil between oil changes, but has a slight tapping to it. I'm not too worried about it just yet, but am wanting to get ready for when the time comes to swap the old engine out. My question is, what other motor(s) will "fall right into place" or will I have to just go with the exact motor swap? I'd like a little more hp than the 1.9 soc has, but don't have a lot of money to do an insane upgrade, plus this swap will have to be done in the 3 days off I have. Any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
