All,

I have a 99 SL2 automatic with approximately 78k miles. Recently, when I am at cruising speed (ex 40mph) and decide to press on the gas to accelerate, the engine will try to downshift and begin to shake, almost stalling. I have changed the sparkplugs but that did not correct the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Does it actually downshift or is it trying in vain and not succeeding?

I have some other ?'s for you but need to get the above answered first.

It's downshifting pretty much in vain. What I have to do is take my foot of the gas a second or two and try to press the gas again. When going up a hill, I will try to press on the gas so it shifts to a lower gear but it does that shaking/stalling symptom. What I usually do is manually downshift to a lower gear and this kinda helps with the climb.

thanks
