Car uses oil and blows smoke when idiling??

I have posted here with problems before but couldn't remember my password so had to start a new account. I have a 99 Saturn SL2, 117,500 miles, automatic. When I leave the car idiling for any length of time, it smokes something terrible, and for a few minutes while I drive down the road. My car uses a lot of oil. It uses between 2 to 3 quarts between changes, and if I happen to let it go over even a few hundred miles it goes really fast. What is this and can it be fixed?? Thanks!!

Hmmmm -- My crystal ball predicts a major engine rebuild/overhaul in your future ...

Likely due to the oil control rings seized in place on the pistons are not sweeping the oil back down the piston walls -- it's bypassing them and burning in the cylinders.

Can be fixed by rebuilding the bottom end.

Should also check the head while its off -- valve seats and valve guide seals often require attention as well...

Blowin smoke at idle = likely past the "cleaner helping stage" of life

What kind of cleaner do you use cause im starting to get smoke when i hit the gas

Cleaner is not likely to help you either. Sounds like you have head issues. In particular valve stem seals.
