99 SL2 Restoration/upgrade
Hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade my 99 saturn sl2 with parts and components that last longer than stock. Some examples include swapping out the copper plugs, which last 5,000 miles, with iridium plugs, that last 100,000 miles. Do any of you have reccommendations on parts/Mods that will accomplish this task?

Stick with the NGK copper plugs. The iridium might last longer in another car, but they won't help your Saturn last longer.
Have you already replaced your ECTS with a metal-tip one?

The basic answer to your question is that there was never a lot of aftermarket support for Saturns in general and specifically the S car. The stock NGK plugs are copper and should last you 36k, not 5K. Don't know what that's about. They are the stock plugs because the engine runs best with them. The ignition system is designed around them. If you want 100,000 miles of po340 and po341 codes, throw some unobtainium plugs.
The best engine mounts by far were the OEM mounts. Aftermarket mounts suck and they don't make the OEM mounts anymore.
People used to make custom exhaust manifolds and mount turbochargers in the S cars but had to run them with a standalone controller because no one figured out how to talk to the PCM
Lowering springs were a thing. Don't think you can get them anymore.
They used to have different gauge masks for the instrument cluster. Don't know if you can still get those.
No other GM engine is a bolt in.
Some guy jammed a V8 under the hood, converted to real-wheel drive, and use it as dragster.
There are turbo kits out there now. Not really sure why unless they are leftovers that never sold. It's probably cheaper to get a turbo quote unquote kit from someone parting out their old Saturn.
People use funky expensive brake pads and cross drilled perpendicular parallel rhomboid break rotors up to 98, then swap the rear drums for discs in the 99 to 02 when Saturn got cheap with the brakes.
In summary, love your car the way it is. It was meant to be that way and in all likelihood it will stay that way unless you are really good at welding and have a lot of money.
