98 SL2 Alternator?

Hello, I'd appreciate any wisdom anyone may lend. Here's the problem:
my SL2 would start intermittently and after testing the battery I was advised to change the starter. I did that yesterday. This morning the car started beautifully but I noticed a lack of power when the windows went up, the volume on the radio wasn't very good and my headlights were dim. The battery died out a few miles from work. I had the alternator checked out at 3 different place. If passed two and failed a third.
Is there anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks!

Yeah - I'd replace the heavy positive battery cable. Acid wicks up into the cable and rots it from the inside ... looks OK, but won't carry the load.
